Bageshree Vaze’s Global Bollywood is an eclectic celebration of music and dance highlighting India’s film music history. Just as Hollywood evolved following World War II, the Hindi film industry flourished by adapting a musical format which featured songs and dances, giving rise to prolific music composers who defined and developed a unique Indian sound.
 Choreographed, performed and directed by MTV India ‘ubbharta sitara’ (rising star) Bageshree Vaze, the show brings the music of Bollywood’s best to life through dance and visuals, highlighting the music of C. PARATOPIA – 21st century Kathak Dance production presented by DanceWorks

DANCEWORKS presents Indian and urban dance styles in an exciting new production choreographed by Bageshree Vaze. The program will feature excerpts from past works such as Tarana, Avatar (9), and the CanAsian Dance Festival commissioned-work In My (Dis)Place, along with a new commissioned group work entitled Paratopia.

Inspired by The Matrix movies (which were inspired by Indian philosophy), Paratopia combines Kathak rhythms and dance with Urban/Hip Hop beats and choreography, featuring Toronto dancers Bageshree Vaze, Danny McArthur, Daniel Gomez and Samantha Schleese, tabla drum artist Vineet Vyas, Dora Award-winning composer Phil Strong, video/animation artist Elysha Poirier, and Human beat-box artist KillaBeatz. Kathak Dance Star Anuj Mishra from Lucknow, India will also perform in the production.

LOCAL SOUTH ASIAN ORGANIZATIONS UNITE TO CELEBRATE THE POWER OF FEMALE YOUTH
Pratibha Arts joins forces with Besharam to honour the power and resilience of female youth in Balika, an event featuring South Asian and female-powered performances on August 18, 2013, 8:00 pm at Lula Lounge, 1585 Dundas Street West. Proceeds from Balika will promote girls’ rights and help end gender inequality through Plan’s Because I am a Girl initiative.’www.mybindi.com is the media sponsor and the event is hosted by Anjum Nayyar, publisher of www.masalamommas.com. The word Balika means ‘girl child’ in Hindi. Toronto, ON (April 2012) – Indian dance and contemporary movement join forces in an exciting new production, ‘Damaru|Mudra’, premieres at Toronto’s Enwave Theatre, Harbourfront Centre (231 Queens Quay West), May 25 and 26, 2012 at 8 pm.

A part of Harbourfront Centre’s 2011|12 Next Steps Dance Season, ‘Damaru|Mudra’ is a dance- music-theatre production exploring the theme of ‘Tandava|Lasya’ or the masculine vs. feminine in Indian culture. The masculine is embodied through rhythmic footwork, and the damaru, the cosmic drum of the Hindu God Shiva. The feminine is featured through lyrical movement and mudra, or the stylized hand gestures unique to Indian dance.

‘Passage to India’ will feature the release of Bageshree’s new video ‘Yoga,’ from the Tarana cd, which has received rave reviews. The cd is a breakthrough display of music for Indian dance, and the video features yoga postures and Kathak choreography. Featuring a special ‘squishy lens’ to artistically enhance the choreography, the video is directed by Erica Shallow, and the cinematography is by award-winning Arthur E. Cooper. Vaze’s first video ‘Deewana’ won Outstanding Canadian music video at the 2006 ReelWorld Film festival.
